Compress Image to 500KB
Bring a large photo under 500 KB with almost no visible change - ideal for high-resolution uploads.
For Images That Need to Stay Big
500 KB is a limit you meet when the file matters at full resolution - print-ready artwork, a detailed scan, a photo that will be examined closely rather than glanced at. At this target the compressor barely has to work: most 12-megapixel phone photos drop below 500 KB at a quality setting where the difference is invisible on screen. It is the right choice when a portal allows half a megabyte and you would rather spend it than throw detail away, and it still cuts a typical 4 MB camera file to an eighth of its size.
How to Compress an Image
Upload your image
Pick a JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF file from your device. It stays on your computer - nothing is sent to a server.
Set a target size or quality
Type the exact KB size a form or upload limit requires, tap one of the presets, or switch to the quality slider for manual control.
Download the compressed file
Check the before and after sizes, then save the smaller image in JPG, PNG, or WebP.
Where a 500 KB Cap Turns Up
- Upload forms that allow up to 500 KB per document
- High-resolution scans of contracts and legal paperwork
- Photos for print layouts that must stay detailed
- Large screenshots attached to detailed bug reports
- Real estate and vehicle listing photos
- Cutting a camera photo to an eighth of its size with no visible loss
Compressing to 500 KB
Will anyone notice the compression at 500 KB?
On screen, almost certainly not. 500 KB is enough for a full-resolution photo at a quality level where artefacts are not visible at normal viewing distance.
Is 500 KB fine for printing?
For everyday printing yes. For professional press work, ask your printer what they need - they often want a much larger file or a lossless format.
My photo is already 400 KB. Should I still run it through?
There is no need. The tool detects when re-encoding would not help and hands back your original file unchanged.
Can I compress several photos to 500 KB?
One at a time here, so you can check each result. Use the upload button at the top to load the next photo.
