Compress Image to 2MB
Bring a very large photo under 2 MB without touching its resolution or visible quality.
Gentle Compression for Very Large Files
A 2 MB target is about trimming rather than shrinking. It suits high-megapixel photos, RAW exports and large scans that are simply too heavy to attach but that you do not want to degrade. At this size the encoder runs at a high quality setting, so the result is visually identical to the source for practical purposes while often being half the size or less. If your file is already close to 2 MB the tool will tell you that re-encoding gains nothing and hand your original back untouched.
How to Compress an Image
Upload your image
Pick a JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF file from your device. It stays on your computer - nothing is sent to a server.
Set a target size or quality
Type the exact KB size a form or upload limit requires, tap one of the presets, or switch to the quality slider for manual control.
Download the compressed file
Check the before and after sizes, then save the smaller image in JPG, PNG, or WebP.
When to Aim for 2 MB
- High-megapixel photos that are too heavy to email
- Large scans of drawings, maps and posters
- Portals that accept up to 2 MB per file
- Photos exported from a camera at maximum quality
- Archiving a shoot at a smaller size without visible loss
- Sharing detailed screenshots of large displays
Compressing to 2 MB
Is there any point compressing to 2 MB?
Yes, when the source is 8-20 MB. Cutting it to 2 MB with no visible change makes the file practical to send while keeping every pixel.
Does the resolution change?
No. At this target the compressor only adjusts encoder quality; the pixel dimensions stay exactly as they were.
Why is my file still large after compressing?
Check the output format. A PNG cannot be compressed by quality settings - switch to JPG or WebP and the size will drop sharply.
Can I go lower later?
Yes, just change the target number. Always start again from the original file rather than re-compressing an already compressed one.
